Adventures In Half Moon Bay, California

Half Moon Bay – A Pastoral Paradise Where Everything Grows!

Half Moon Bay Farmlands

Take a drive down Highway 92 towards the San Francisco Peninsula, and you’ll see dozens of nurseries and farms that decorate the area in a lush, verdant landscape. As you get closer to the ocean, roll down your window, and you’ll feel a pleasant sea mist diffused throughout the air and a temperature that’s never too hot or too cold. This nutrient-rich ocean mist, temperate year-round weather, and rich soil make Half Moon Bay a cornucopia of vibrant food and horticulture and an exciting destination for travelers. While visiting the Coastside area, indulge yourself in a visit to a local farm or enjoy the colorful flower nurseries. You’ll always have things to do in Half Moon Bay because there is always something fun to see or do. Here are a few suggestions to get you started exploring the Coastside’s rich agricultural community.

Spend Your Day With The Flowers At A Local Nursery

Half Moon Bay has the perfect climate for growing many unique plants and is famous for its many nurseries, florists, and flower farms. Here are a few options for your next exploration:

Half Moon Bay Nursery – This giant nursery is located directly off Highway 92 (San Mateo Road). It’s a fantastic resource for unique plants, gardening tools, and other accessories. Get ready to spend at least an hour here, as you’ll be mesmerized by gorgeous hydrangeas, exotic orchids, colorful succulents, fragrant herbs, various trees and shrubs, and adorable topiaries. When you’re ready to purchase your plant, you’ll be greeted by the sleeping nursery cat at the register. Half Moon Bay Nursery – 11691 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019 | Phone: (650) 726-5392

Pastorino’s Flowers– Enrico and Lorraine Pastorino founded this third-generation family farm and flower shop in 1957. Enrico was an Italian immigrant who moved to the San Francisco Bay Area with his family in 1919. In 1938, he married Lorraine, and they settled in the fertile Half Moon Bay Valley. The farm’s primary business started as a wholesale flower nursery, and this tradition continues today. In 1971, Enrico’s son Hank started a seasonal pumpkin patch and barn where customers buy local gifts and holiday decorations. Today, Hank and his son Scott continue to manage the family farm. Predatory Plants has since grown into one of the leading carnivorous plant companies in the U.S., with over 25,000 square feet of greenhouse space.
