A Peaceful Harbor with Beaches, Food, Drinks, and Surfing

Located only a 4 minute walk away from the Inn at Mavericks is Pillar Point – a great coastal access area. Visitors can park at the Tide Pools Parking Lot on West Point Avenue and walk down to the beach on the dirt trail. On the right hand side visitors will find the Pillar Point Air Force Tracking Station which is closed to the public, and on the left hand side, a peaceful beach that is perfect for families with kids, dog owners, and those seeking a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the bay. This beach is a great place to enjoy the beach and views of the harbor with little to no wind or dangerous waves. Visitors may also enjoy lovely views of the coastal mountains to the Southeast. If you walk down the right hand side of the beach you’ll come to a stone labyrinth and a picnic bench overlooking the bay. Around the point you’ll find world famous surfing spot, Mavericks Beach, directly in front of the Pillar Point Air Force Tracking Station. Known internationally for being a big wave surfing spot, this local beach draws thousands of surfers and observers every winter during “big wave” season.
