My husband and I stayed at this hotel February 2012 on the top floor Ross' cove room. We loved everything about it from the nice gas fireplace to the comfy king bed and of course the views and balcony. It's so relaxing to hear the sound of waves crashing along the shore all night. We left the heater on so we could leave the door open since it was so cold. You can barely hear the fog horn with the door open and with it closed you have to really be listening for it to hear it at all. I found it soothing and not bothersome at all. The bathroom is huge and has a deep soaking tub/shower, huge vanity with glass bowl and 2 cozy robes. There was also a complimentary snack basket with cookies, granola bars etc and 2 water bottles on the bar area next to keurig coffee maker. Nice sitting area with a sofa and chair by the fireplace also. This is definitely my new favorite place and I have nothing but good things to say . Definitely worth the price for what you get.
Absolutely beautiful!!! My fiancé our furr baby and my self snuck away on a Monday afternoon and checked in to the Mavericks King Corner Suite. Impressive from the very beginning. We get in the room and there's a whole basket of goodies and champagne! Yumm! The bed was unbelievably comfortable. The fire place definitely will warm you up. Bring DVD's, it's so relaxing after a hot bubble bath to slip on your robes have a fire and watch a movie with the patio door wide open! Our next trip is in a week, we are bringing our s'mores kit this time! Overall amazing experience, walking distance from Half Moon Bay Brewery, dog friendly btw. Miramar restaurant and Moss Beach Distillery are all pet friendly!!
When we arrived Thanksgiving Day the manager was not present (understandable on the holiday)but had left the key hanging outside the room-obviously a very safe neighbourhood!
The room was lovely and had the most comfortable bed ever and a beautiful large bathroom complete with soaker tub and robes.
There was a bar frig, microwave, glasses and dishes, a basket full of snack food and fruit, bottle of wine, bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates all for our enjoyment(ask for the honeymoon or anniversary special). On the table there were books and magazines and binoculars at our disposal.
My boyfriends snoring is way more annoying than the fog horn but I'm sure it would pose a problem for some.
The balcony is a nice size and you have a great view from it.We stayed at the Hyatt In San Francisco with a bay-view balcony the next night and The Mavericks was far superior-better balcony and view, better bed, far better bathroom and all the little extras- the Hyatt doesn't even supply robes.
We loved Half Moon Bay and Princeton and The Inn at Mavericks-we will definitely return.
We spent the weekend after Thanksgiving here this year. It was perfect. The little town was packed with weekenders but because this Inn sits back away from the highway it was very peaceful. To find a beautiful Inn right on the water anywhere is wonderful, but to find one that is dog friendly is just remarkable.
We brought our 4 year old and our Lab and the 'kids' were able to sit outside in the yard and play while the grownups were relaxing. We took them down to the little beach in front of the hotel and ran and ran and ran.....and then we decided to go for a walk down to the Mavericks Beach (SURFERS!). When we got down near the beach we realized we were joined by hundreds of others families and found out that we were lucky enough to have come on a minus tide, and spent the next 2 hours walking around the tidal pools discovering sea life. This is always a huge plus with little kids.
When we woke up Sunday morning, we all walked into the little village, watched the fishermen trying to catch on the pier, found a coffee bar, and enjoyed our family walk in the fresh air before piling back in the car.
This hotel only has 6 rooms. I seriously want to plan a Wedding and rent the entire thing! Beach and Marina views, snacks, fireplace, huge bed........the list just goes on and on.
We will be back and tell everyone we meet in the mean time about this hidden gem. Very memorable.
Inn at Mavericks seems to be a popular place to go for anniversaries - my husband surprised me with a getaway here for our first wedding anniversary! Arrival was nice - pick up an envelope with your room number on it, then go to your room and unlock the door. Much nicer than having to hassle with an office, juggle bags and credit cards.. none of that. The room was cozy, but very spacious! The room included a super comfy king sized bed, gas fireplace, flat screen TV, table and chairs for dining, complimentary snacks and water, complimentary wine and champagne (we dont drink, though.) chocolates (which we did enjoy to the fullest!) nice big patio, a full ocean view, and a very nice bathroom. The view was FABULOUS. Clear water as far as the eye can see, cute little boats, complete with salty sea air and the fog horn (I kind of liked it.
) was quite refreshing. Check out was equally as pleasant - lock the door behind you and hang your key up. So nice. We had an amazing stay. Thank you Inn at Mavericks!
I want to give a zero star review.. but wait.. don't get me wrong.. it's only because I don't want word to get out about this hidden gem. After all, Inn at Mavericks is now our very special place. I discovered this place here on Yelp and all I can say is that the previous reviews just didn't give this place justice!
We arrived here on a late Saturday afternoon, parked in the parking lot (notice the spikes placed strategically in the trees so the birds can't sit on the branches and poop on the cars!). The Inn is small, just six rooms. A sign on the office door instructed us to open the mail box and find the envelope with our name. The envelope gave us all the details we needed for our stay and led us to our room.
We were in Mavericks #1. Upon walking in, the first thing I noticed was CLEAN. The very faint aroma of bleach was in the air. I had a GOOD feeling about this place! The room was decorated perfectly and was generous in size.
The Inn Keeper thought of everything here. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was soft. A gas fireplace in the corner was the PERFECT touch! A small round glass table and chairs for sitting/eating, couch and over sized comfy chair were rounding out the room. Then there was the wet bar (OK, no sink, so not officially a wet bar, I guess). A Keurig coffee machine with a lovely assortment of K-Cups, flavored and plain creamers, sugar/sweetener packages, and a basket full of snacks (almonds, popcorn, candies, local salt water taffy, an apple, hot chocolate, cookies, granola bars, etc.). A fridge, microwave and DVD player were tucked away. We also found every type
of glass you could ever want (wine, scotch, water, martini, etc..), a cutting board, utensils, plates, and napkins. No touch was left out. It was absolutely perfect!
As far as the fog horn... yes, we heard it. It was part of the ambiance of being coast side. I enjoyed it. It's what you expect when staying at a cozy little Inn on the water.
We will be back to the Inn at Mavericks in a red hot minute. This place is a gem. It's quiet, clean, perfectly decorated, comfortable and the view cannot be beat. It's the perfect getaway. It's our very special place.
The Inn at Mavericks at Half Moon Bay is a wonderful place to stay. We had only one problem with this resort: Our stay here was unfortunately much too short. But because the room and the Bay are really nice we have a reason to come back alt least twice! Siegbert Rudolph with Sonja Rudolph, Oberasbach, Germany
We came to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and get away from it all (kids, work etc.) Thankfully Grandma and Grandpa were able to watch the DD's.
We did a lot of research and it gets quite confusing to find a place for one night on a weekend. The reviews here seemed solid and we decided to take a risk on the foghorn.
From the second we walked in our room it smelled amazingly clean. The view of the ocean was amazing. Those that followed our recent bedbug motel story will be happy to know that I did a thorough check and there were no sign here ![]()
The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was very luxurious. Love the soaking tub
Nice to have the snack basket and keurig cofeemaker in the room plus the fridge and glasses/plates etc.
As far as the foghorn goes it was fairly loud with the slider open, but with it closed it was very faint. If you are sensitive, bring earplugs, but otherwise you should be fine.
We can't wait to return!
We had a wonderful stay at the Inn. All the negative reviews about the foghorn must be from super-sensitive sleepers, because it was a total non-issue. With the windows closed, you really had to strain to hear it. The rooms are very spacious, and true to the pictures, with modern furnishings and appliances.
Loved the view, the rooms were gorgeous and the fire pit outside was wonderful. Allan (the innkeeper) could not have been more helpful and accommodating! Would definitely come back!
I was invited to the "Inn" for a friend's 50th birthday celebration. We had the entire Inn reserved for our group. Nothing about the weekend was less than spectacular. The location, the rooms, the view, etc. It was all perfection. Allen, the Inn Keeper, was amazing and attentive.
If you want a treat, this is a must.
This is a really nice little gem just outside of Half Moon Bay. My wife and I stayed for a weekend getaway and we think it was probably the best place we've stayed at. First off, the rooms are right on the bay. Perfect views no matter which of the only 6 rooms they have. Really quiet with really well decorated and updated furnishings. The bed is really comfortable with the pillow top. We got a call that our room was ready 4 hours earlier than check-in. We walked in to a bottle of wine and chocolates and it's got a Kuerig coffee maker!!
Very short walk to several restaurants in which we had a wonderful dinner at the Mezza Luna just around the corner. Definitely going to stay there again soon. Worth the cost! The other "resort" up the road has views of the marina's parking lot, not like the Inn at Mavericks waterfront location. The only bad thing is as more people hear of this little gem with only 6 rooms, it will be hard to stay here because it will be constantly sold out!! Hahaha...
Definitely check this place out!
Thank you, for a wonderful celebration of our seventh wedding anniversary!!! Every moment was treasured and will be remembered.
Price is inexpensive for what you get...but we of course loved that!
The best quick weekend getaway hotel we could hope for. Absolutely beautiful room with a fantastic view.It even started off amazing. Allan called us the day we were scheduled to arrive and told us our room was ready by noon, when they usually don't allow check-in until 3PM. I've never ever had a hotel do that, and even though we didn't make it there till after three, I would have loved another 3 hours there. They keep a 'journal' in each room for the guests to write in, and the things the previous guests wrote were absolutely stunningly beautiful. I guess I should not have been surprised, but over half of their guests are from the local area. If you live here, I cannot recommend this highly enough. This was our first time, but we'll be back many, many times.
The worst thing about this place was leaving it. My husband took me here for 1 night for my birthday and it was perfect. Peaceful, secluded, exactly what I was looking for. I have a 3 year old and a baby on the way so all I wanted was to relax, read and sleep. When we got there, Allen (the host) greeted us with a bottle of Wine and a box of my favorite chocolates. Since I cant have the wine I asked him for a little more water and he gave us 6 bottles. There was no charge for anything, not even the basket of snacks that came with the room. Yes, I ate all of the snacks too
We sat on the patio and read, read by the fire, took a cat nap, then we got in room massages. The bed was comfy and the sounds of the sea were calming. We are hoping we can get back there ASAP. Its worth every penny too. They don't skimp anywhere.
There is nothing more beautiful then waking up the morning after you just got married to sunshine and the calming waters of Half Moon Bay smack dab in front of you. I selected Inn @ Mavericks because this is exactly how I wanted to wake up - just married, with our bed facing the open sea, reflecting on how this is the first day of our married life together.
No other "hotel" could guarantee I'd have a room with a FULL ocean view - at Maverick's ocean views is all they've got.
We stayed in the Ross Cove room which was incredibly comfortable and had: a clean and updated large bathroom, mini-fridge, coffee maker, microwave, small fire place, love seat and chair, small table and an incredibly cute (but small) balcony with complimentary binoculars so you could see little sea lions peep their heads out of the Bay.
The bed, a King-size of pure comfort. Fresh duvet comforters, extra blankets, tons of pillows. I personally prefer queen size, but since I was so exhausted from our wedding reception, it didn't matter all that much.
As far as the foghorn, it really is an afterthought. You do get used to it because it's a softer sounding foghorn that you would find on your Sharper Image Sleep Soother alarm clock. It's NOT like a blaring Titanic foghorn. Plus the giant sliding glass doors are double paned and super thick but if you are super sensitive to sound, then bring some ear plugs just in case. Keep in mind though if you grew up in a suburban city next to a nearby airport like my husband and I did or if you live in a downtown area it's really not a problem - Inn @ Maverick's will be heaven for you.
In fact writing this review makes me want to go back there right now...I'll be back...
Although the hotel was full, I never saw or heard any other guests. The hotel is right on the HMB Habor, walking distance to Princeton-by-the-Sea. The rooms are nicely decorated with beautiful views of the harbor. Heated by a thermostate operated gas fireplace which provides dual purpose giving the room a romantic ambiance. I would definitely recommend the The Inn at Mavericks to family and friends.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Mavericks so much! The innkeeper and his staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was really lovely and we enjoyed the quiet location. We had the famous San Francisco fog roll in during most of our stay, but we still enjoyed sitting on our deck, and by the fire pit with friends. We will definitely return. I gave the Inn a 5 star rating because it was perfect!
This was the most wonderful last minute getaway ever! The owner was so great to call me back with a cancellation shortly after telling me they were full up. The room was gorgeous and luxurious (I am still trying to find some pillows like those). From the no-hassle check in to the robes, the giant tub, the incredibly comfortable and huge bed, the fireplace, the amazing view when we woke up in the morning...all was just perfect. It may have even saved my life!
Could not believe the atmosphere, sounds of the sea, seals at night, views, fog horn watching over us. It was truly the most exotic vacation we have taken in years. Just came back from Italy and this beats it by far with the accommodations, privacy, quietness, and beauty of sights and sounds. you are missing something if you do not go to Inn at Mavericks. Are making plans to return in the fall and at Xmas with grown kids. Only if you like privacy, quiet, and seclusion should you go.
The Inn at Mavericks served as a perfect "baby moon" for my husband and I. Everything good that has been said is so very true, it is such a special place. The room was so large and comfortable with great personal touches. The bathroom is out of this world. As a pregnant woman I especially loved the complimentary snack basket left in our room. I wasn't bothered by the fog horn at all, as the previous reviews have stated it only serves to remind you how close to the water you are. I can't say enough about this place!
I first learned of Inn at Mavericks via TripAdvisor...and SO glad I did. I very much enjoyed it. Room was lovely, view was great. Very private. The room was very nice and modern...I have no idea why some other reviews worry about the foghorn, as it was not loud enough to be any inconvenience whatsoever, in fact rather comforting to hear off in the distance. I would absolutely return to to this Inn...in fact, can not wait to!
“Excellent stay! Only wish it could have been longer!!!” Accommodations and hospitality was excellent! We checked in late and our room key was waiting us in the designated spot. Cleanliness was exceptional, bathroom was bright and clean with amazing soaking tub and great shower, soft robes as well. Comfy bed, nice gas fireplace, wonderful view of the bay, a few snacks (a good variety!) and waters were left upon check-in and very much appreciated after a long day of travel! Dining area, mini-fridge, microwave and single serve coffee maker round out the large and relaxing room. Large deck area was a pleasure for this east coaster to watch the sun rise and the glow over the sailboats early in the morning. The inn is walking distance to town for a bite to eat, a few drinks or just a stroll through this great town. We explored the beach the next morning and were delighted by the binoculars left in the room we could use to watch the amazing waves at Mavericks breaking just around the point from the Inn. There is mention of a fog horn that can easily be heard throughout the Half Moon Bay area but after an hour I honestly didn't even hear it anymore. If you stay anywhere at Half Moon Bay you will hear it but don't let that deter you from this great small inn with first class service! We also enjoyed the easily accessable high speed internet with no added charges! Thanks for an exceptional stay, we'd love to return!
“This place was EXACTLY what we were looking for...” What a great place to getaway. We are just over the hill but felt a million miles away from the stress and worry of everyday life. This is the perfect hideaway. Quiet, close to shopping and restaurants if you wanted to do that, yet secluded enough that you felt like you had the whole oceanfront all to yourselves! We were looking to go somewhere with a fireplace, a nice huge tub and a view, and that's exactly what we got. No noise, no neighbors or traffic bothering you (the staff was almost unseen) but very welcoming, really comfortable room - loved the blankets and the bed) and will definitely be coming back here. Just left yesterday and have already told many friends ![]()
I was pleasantly surprised by this quaint Inn. I have been visiting the Half Moon Bay area for many years, and decided that this year I would set my sites on room accommodations near or on the water. The choices in Half Moon Bay are limited but for the price of this spectacular little Inn, it is worth the minor upgrade from the mainstream chain hotels. Gorgeous spacious rooms all with a view!!! It was incredibly enjoyable to fall asleep to the soft coo of the fog horn. I would suggest this Inn to any couple looking for a quaint getaway for the evening!
We really enjoyed our stay. The view is amazing, bed extremely comfortable, beautiful bathrrom, and each room has its own little backyard to sit and relax. There is a trail to the mavericks(big surfer waves) right down the road. Our host was very helpful(I forgot his name). He had great referrals for restaurants and there is an assortment of complementary snacks in your room when you arrive.
The room was more than your usual room, spacious, cozy and very well decorated. The bed was so comfortable, it is one of the only time I went through my typical 6am waking up time...Very clean and newly renovated with style...The view is awesome, very relaxing and the location is great, 5 minute walk to restaurants and a 20 minute walk to the famous Mavericks wave...sunset was out of this world from our room!!! There was all kinds of birds, hummingbirds right next to our chairs outside...I will definitely go back there and if I do, I will stay at the same place...Home away from home near one of my favorite place in the world, the Mavericks...
We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Maverick's. We managed to schedule our trip through a pretty heavy wind/rainstorm, but it was actually kinda nice to just kick back in the room and watch the waves roll in and listen to the rain come down. The room was nice and pretty recently renovated. Everything looks new. We had a great view and there were just some thoughtful things like a free snack basket that was nice to see after a long day of driving. Stephen really took care of us and I'd say went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we enjoyed our stay. It's a beautiful little getaway in Half Moon Bay and the price is reasonable. We'll definitely go back again and stay a bit longer next time..
Location was fantastic, right on the beach. Nice quiet area . Close to restaurants (Half Moon Bay Brewery--great food). Great new bathrooms (love the makeup mirrors--many hotels forget that!) Although other reviews mention the airport--it's a small plane/local airport with a few planes flying over during the day. Rooms below had nice yards for dogs.
This Inn is just what Half Moon Bay needed. I recently stayed here and had such a relaxing weekend with the Inn being a highlight! It has an awesome fire pit for hanging out, keeping us warm on a foggy day. The rooms are very large, big enough for me, my husband and our 2yr. son, pack-n-play and all. Though probably better for a romantic getaway, we found our room was perfect with a toddler. It had a full microwave and mini fridge for kid food prep...we felt completely at home. The bathroom was lovely, big soaking tub! We also walked to dinner both nights from the Inn and went on an awesome hike Sat. at Pillar Point.Amazing weekend at the coast, we won't ever stay anywhere else when visiting HMB! We will be going back again and again.
Very nice for a romantic get away - fireplace, soaking tub, private patio, exclusive view of the bay, plush robes. Must take a short ride to the end of the road and walk around the point to see "Mavericks" beach. Art work among the natural environment - a rock maze, carved relief in giant driftwood, "Foo" memorial rock stand. Surfers, bird watchers, fishermen and photographers are drawn to the point for their passion. Keep an eye out for slumbering sea lion.
We really enjoyed our stay, the suite was roomy, very comfortable, nicely decorated, and right on the water. Plenty of room for an active toddler to run around. Easy walk to some nearby restaurants and shops as well as a spa.
We stayed in the room called the "Dunes" and it was beautiful. Very spacious, comfortable king bed, nice big tub, great balcony with view of the harbor and decor was lovely. Had a great time and would love to stay here again.
Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your Inn!! We were there Sept 11 and 12th.The room was huge, cozy, extremely clean, and had all the amenities one could ask for! Will definitely come back when we get to California again. Thanks!
We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at the Inn for our anniversary. It was serene, relaxing and luxurious. We live just over the hill, but yet the Inn feels worlds away. We were so impressed by the Inn that we have already been talking it up to friends as a great place for a romantic escape.
The Inn at Mavericks was one of the most delightful experiences I have ever had. Inn at Mavericks is tastefully appointed, from the bathroom fixtures to the duvet cover; nothing was left out. My therapy dog Trevin absolutely loved staying here as well. It is the quintessential "pet-friendly" lodging. We both gave it "two paws up"! What a most wonderful experience and 8th birthday celebration for Trevin. We can't wait to return!
The location is amazing....quiet, sound of the fog horn, no street noise, only six rooms, but, beautiful! I was there this weekend and the rooms are just as amazing as the view. It is so quiet there you can truly get away BUT within walking distance of the harbor (where you can buy fresh fish off the boats), many restaurants, shops and boutiques. You should make a point to get to the Inn at Maverick's and check out for a few days...read a book, nap, celebrate being alive, etc. Oh, I almost forgot ..the BED..oh my gosh..it was so comfortable I could have slept for 3 days but what fun I would have missed if I had!!!
Simple, elegant tranquility. A place for long conversations. The full moon over the bay wasn't a bad touch either!
We found the Inn at Mavericks on the last day of our California holiday. Had we found it earlier, we never would have left.
What a wonderful way to start the new year! I will personally recommend this wonderful place to the Queen.
The only problem with this beautiful place is that you want to cancel all your plans and hang around this cozy room watching the ocean.
