A big, white calla-lily Perhaps on your first visit to Half Moon Bay you will wander into town on San Mateo road and pass by fields of flowers and dozens of nurseries. This unusual abundance of color and light is a side of Half Moon Bay that emerges from the perfect combination of coastal mist, balmy summer days, and rich soil. This protected section of coast is famous for its calla lilies, dahlias, violas, roses and hydrangeas.

If you are ready for more color and more variety then come visit us in July and attend the Tours des Fleurs. Tour des Fleurs offers the public a once-a-year opportunity to tour local nurseries, greenhouses, wineries and farms. Many of these businesses are not ordinarily open to the public, but during Tour des Fleurs they invite you for a “behind the scenes” tour of their facilities and operations.

The Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce and Visitors’ Bureau presents its 19th Tour des Fleurs on Saturday, July 20.
