The Mavericks surfing competition has been canceled for 2017. Not only were surfers shocked and saddened, but the community at Half Moon Bay also felt the loss of this unique event.
The event, known as Titans of Mavericks, normally takes place between November and March when a perfect alignment of clear weather and swells creates the giant waves. Over the years the news of this event has spread to an international community which listens for the 48-hour notice of the event start.
It’s easy to understand why this event has always been difficult to run as it is simply unpredictable… imagine waiting for Mother Nature to deliver the right mix of big waves and calm winds.
The Inn At Mavericks is located just down the beach from the contest’s location and has always felt a deep sense of connection to the location, waves, and the dedication from the local community. We hope to one day again hold our breath as the surfers, on the wings of Icarus, perform one of the most spectacular sports in the world.
